Mental Health Around Holidays
As we break for the holidays, this time of year can be extra stressful or lonely for some members of our community. You never know what someone may be going through. The crisis line (988) and SafeUT app are available 24/7 to assist those who are struggling.
If you would like more information about resources available, you may also visit our website: Parent & Family Resource Guide (graniteschools.org)
Please remember that you are a valued member of our community, and we are here to help support you. Have a restful winter break.
Social Harms
“Students cannot learn when they are constantly trying to check for validation from peers or text messages from others.”
Dr. Mandy Chapple, principal of Granite Technical Institute, recently partnered with the Utah Department of Health and Human Services to share how the distracting nature and frequent occurrence of cyberbullying are some of the main issues kids face with social media every day.

Air Quality & Cold Weather Reminder
With cold weather in the forecast, it’s a good time for a refresher on how extreme cold temperatures and air quality can affect recess time.
Student health and safety is our primary concern. As such, schools monitor temperatures on a day-by-day basis and it’s up to the administration of each individual elementary school to determine if cold temperatures are extreme enough to warrant restricting outdoor recess activities. If it’s determined that temperatures are too cold for outdoor recess activities, then students will be kept inside the school and recess activities will take place inside the school gym or individual classrooms. We encourage parents to check the weather forecast regularly and to dress students in extra layers including hats, gloves, and boots when colder weather occurs.
When it comes to air quality, schools monitor air quality indexes and take appropriate action based on guidance from the Utah Department of Health.

Holiday Celebrations
