Our CCR goal is to prepare our students socially, emotionally and academically to be college, career and life ready as they become global citizens in the 21st century. These supports are available to ALL students as they prepare and transition to a post-secondary education.
What Do We Do?
AVID – Advancement Via Individual Determination
AVID is a direct structured college preparatory system for first-generation college-goers in 15 of our junior high and high schools. The AVID Elective course supports our students with additional academic, social and emotional support that will help them succeed in their rigorous courses. AVID is a nonprofit that changes lives by helping schools shift to a more equitable, student-centered approach to curriculum and rigor. AVID fosters a safe and open culture, high expectations for teachers and students, and collaboration in all classrooms. Most of our AVID tutors are current college students (the majority are former AVID students from our high schools) to facilitate tutorials during the school day to support the rigorous course work that is required for AVID students.
College Access Advisors
The Utah College Advising Corps (UCAC) is a college access program founded on the idea that all high school students deserve equal opportunities to enter institutions of higher education. The Office of Engagement at the University of Utah, UCAC encourages Utah high school students to participate in the various higher education opportunities available to them through the state’s nine colleges and universities and throughout the nation. UCAC’s ultimate goal is to increase the number of underserved students that enroll in college.
Latinos In Action
LIA’s Mission is to empower Latino youth to be college and career ready through culture, service, leadership and to lead and strengthen their communities. LIA achieves this through culturally responsive social and emotional learning, college and career readiness, and leadership development. Junior high and high school LIA students tutor elementary students in reading support 1x/week and are strong role models. In collaboration with GSD’s Reading Specialists, LIA students use the DYAD reading program that students are already using in their classrooms to keep continuity.
Utah College Application Week (UCAW)
In October, all seniors in our nine high schools have the ability and support to apply to at least one college (1, 2, or 4 years) for a technical, associates or bachelor seeking degrees. UCAW is held during the school day so that students receive one on one support to complete a college application(s). Granite Education Foundation is a strong partner to help remove the first barrier of the application fee for those that need it through a generous grant so students can complete their application.
FAFSA – Free Application for Federal Student Aid
FAFSA Completion Initiative – Millions of dollars in Pell Grants are available to students every year by submitting the FAFSA. In partnership with UHEAA, one on one support is given to students and families to complete and submit a FAFSA for free grant money, loans and work study. FAFSA nights begin in October and align with College Application Week to give families continued support in all 9 high schools. Additionally, schools continue to offer FAFSA nights throughout the year for our seniors with any additional help and support.
Parchment e-transcripts
Parchment is a digital credential service, allowing learners, academic institutions, to request, verify, and share credentials in simple and secure ways. This service is free for our seniors to send transcripts to the colleges of their choice in their senior year.
How Do We Help?
Granite School District wants ALL students to commit to graduate from high school, career and be life ready. Not only is graduating from high school a very important milestone, it is also a stepping stone for a post-secondary education in their field of interest. CCR feels very strongly that our students deserve the needed help and support to navigate their individual transition from high school to college, career and life.
