Welcome to Visual Art!
“Art can transform lives. It gives us the power to question, to confront, to explore, and to challenge how we think about the world.” -Lucy Liu
The Fine Arts Core Curriculum places emphasis on creating, performing, presenting, producing, responding, and connecting. In Granite School District teachers use curriculum maps, benchmarks, and benchmark assessments that are based on the Utah State Core Standards for Dance, Theatre, and Visual Arts.
Students have many opportunities to perform, present, and produce works of art in each of these areas.
Visual Art
Students have many opportunities to share their art work in Granite School District. Many schools have art shows each year. We also have a Granite School District Junior High Art Show and a Granite School District High School Art Show each year. These exhibitions run for one week each and are in April in the GEC’s auditorium. It is always exciting to see what our teachers have taught and the creativity expressed by students.
Art Night Life
We are also very fortunate to have the Granite Education Foundation which sponsors ART NIGHT LIVE for our high school art students. This is a completion/art display where select students compete and create a work of art in 4 hours. We have outstanding artists such as Al Rounds, who come and mentor the student artists. Students are given art supplies and completion winners receive cash awards.
