Looking for great resources for summer reading and summer learning? In this post series we round up programs and resources from Granite School District, community organizations, and other resources from the web in general. Today we are featuring the Kids Summer Passport from the Salt Lake County Zoo, Arts, and Parks Program.
ZAP Kids Summer Passport
The Zoo, Arts, and Parks Program of Salt Lake County is collaborating with museums, festivals, and organizations throughout the Salt Lake Valley to sponsor special events and provide free or reduced price entrances to children with the Kids Summer Passport. From their website,
The Passport is a summer program in which eligible explorers (17 and under) pick up a ZAP Kids Summer Passport at one of the Passport locations (see below) and then visit their choice of summer destinations (see below) to explore fun, family-oriented activities, events, and locations. Passport destinations are either free or steeply discounted to help families maximize their summer explorations, and are either ZAP grantees or County partners. At each destination, the explorers will have the inside cover of their passport stamped. Earn 5 stamps and get your ticket to this year’s Final Destination Celebration!
Participating in this program is easy:
- Pick up a passport at any public library in Salt Lake County. (Be sure to get started in their summer reading programs while you are there!) You can also print out the passport yourself.
- Visit passport destinations throughout the summer and get your passport stamped. The ZAP Kids Passport web page has a complete listing of ongoing destinations and specific activities and events by date throughout June, July, and August. Activities include everything from concerts and festivals to scavenger hunts, bird shows, and cooking demonstrations.
- Get 5 stamps and turn your passport back in at a library to get a ticket to the Final Destination Celebration (details forthcoming.)
For more information go to the ZAP Kids Summer Passport web page or visit any branch of the Salt Lake County Library, the Salt Lake City Public Library, or the Murray Library.
