In the Granite Educational Technology Department we celebrate learning with technology every day, but today, February 27, 2020, is Digital Learning Day! This day was created to give educators nationwide a platform to showcase the innovative teaching and learning happening in their classrooms and libraries.
What Is ‘Digital Learning?’
From the Digital Learning Day website:
Digital learning is any instructional practice that effectively uses technology to strengthen a student’s learning experience. It emphasizes high-quality instruction and provides access to challenging content, feedback through formative assessment, opportunities for learning anytime and anywhere, and individualized instruction to ensure all students reach their full potential to succeed in college and a career.
Digital learning encompasses many different facets, tools, and applications to support and empower teachers and students, including online courses, blended or hybrid learning, or digital content and resources. Additionally, digital learning can be used for professional learning opportunities for teachers and to provide personalized learning experiences for students.

How To Celebrate Digital Learning Day
Celebrating Digital Learning Day doesn’t have to mean hosting a formal event at your school; it can be as simple as sharing a snapshot of learning in your classroom or just browsing what others are sharing for future inspiration. Here are some ideas:
Collaborate with your School Technology or Library Media Educational Technology Specialist
These teacher specialists have knowledge of and access to a huge menu of tools, resources, and methods to invigorate student learning with technology and high-quality resources. Invite them into your classroom, ask them to recommend resources and tools for an upcoming lesson, or bring your students to them in the library, makerspace, or lab!
Explore innovative learning being shared on social media
We love to highlight, amplify, and retweet the innovative digital learning (as well as analog learning) we see happening in Granite School District on our social media channels, particularly on Twitter. You can browse the feed of our department twitter account, @GraniteEdTech, not just on Digital Learning Day but at any time to see snapshots of digital learning happening in our classrooms and libraries. Also check out the #GSDEdTech and #GSDLibraries hashtags. Follow the #DLDay hashtag to see what is being shared from classrooms beyond our district.
Browse the Digital Learning Day activities and ideas pages
The Digital Learning Day website has curated a number of online resources, lesson plans, and digital tools perfect for a Digital Learning Day activity or to be used any other time.
Share digital learning happening in your classroom
Take some quick snapshots or video of a classroom activity and share it on social media using the #DLDay hashtag. (Mention us @GraniteEdtech and use our #GSDEdTech / #GSDLibraries hashtags as well so we can re-share your posts.)
If you’re not comfortable sharing with a worldwide audience, share these snapshots with parents, as they love to see what their children are learning and doing in the classroom.
Add your event to the official Digital Learning Day Map
If you are doing something formal at your school for Digital Learning Day, register the event and add it to the map! You can also leave a comment below to let us know about what you are doing at your school.
