December 7-13, 2015 is Computer Science Education Week, and it is a great time to host or participate in an Hour of Code activity. Hour of Code is a worldwide initiative to give young people (as well as teachers, parents, and other adults) an introduction to coding and computer science through an engaging one hour activity. Details for December’s #GSDEdTech Twitter Chat
Thanks to all those who participated in Granite District’s November 2015 Twitter Chat. The response and participation in the first ever Granite Twitter Chat was amazing! There were 95 educators from 40 different schools around the district who participated.
We would like to invite any interested faculty members in Granite School District to participate in December’s Twitter Chat. We are very excited about the topic and can’t wait to see the amazing sharing that will take place between Granite teachers. For the month of December, each Granite teacher who participates in the twitter chat will have their name placed in a drawing where they will have the chance at winning 6 Chromebook given to their classroom for student use.

Twitter Tip: Check out this blog post on TweetDeck. Tweetdeck is customizable, multi-column interface for Twitter that makes it easy to follow twitter chats, hashtags, or events as they happen in real time. Users can set up as many columns as they choose, showing not only the regular timeline of updates from people they follow, but also hashtags or other search results, twitter lists, notifications, and much more.

Join Us for a #GSDEdTech Twitter Chat on November 19, 2015
Twitter is an amazing tool to use for collaboration, inspiration, and educational resources. Twitter chats are a great place to get started. You’ll get to talk to other Granite teachers and staff, share ideas, and participate in a short discussion.
Next week the Granite Educational Technology Department is hosting a Twitter Chat discussion for all interested teachers.
Date: Thursday, November 19 2015
Time: 4:30 PM – 5:00 PM
Location: Tweets with the hashtag #gsdedtech on Twitter
The topic of discussion will be: Social Media and Education
The questions that will be asked are:
- How has social media impacted your own learning?
- How has social media affected the way you communicate with parents and students?
- Who do you consider to be the best educators to follow on Twitter when looking for great resources?
- What other topics would you like to discuss in future GSDEdTech Twitter Chats?
This first Granite Ed Tech hosted Twitter Chat is designed to help any interested teacher or staff participants in Granite School District learn more about Twitter and become comfortable using it.

Granite Literacy Association Event: OverDrive and Children’s/YA Literature
On November 16, 2015 the Granite Literacy Association presents “The Best of Both Worlds,” a special event planned in collaboration with library media and educational technology staff. The event will feature rapid-fire book talks on the latest in children’s and young adult literature, as well as an introduction to OverDrive, Granite’s digital library of ebooks and audiobooks.
