New YA Fiction in OverDrive | May 2016

With summer vacation in sight, school librarians will soon remind students to bring in all the checked out books. But this doesn’t mean anyone has to stop reading; summer is the perfect time to dig into a new book, and Granite’s OverDrive Digital Library (http://granite.lib.overdrive.com) will be available all summer long for all students and staff members, wherever they are on almost any computer or mobile device.

We are constantly adding new ebooks and audiobooks to our collection, which now numbers nearly 7,000 titles across K-12. Check out the posters below for some of the latest releases added to the YA collection for May 2016. We also have many new releases in our juvenile collection, they just aren’t shown here. Log in to OverDrive to check them out.

Student Library Cards from Salt Lake County Library Services

Salt Lake County Library Services now provides Student Library Cards – a new type of library card available for students ages 8-17 who live in Salt Lake County. With a Student Library Card, young library users can:

Check out up to 3 items without accruing fines or fees
Use library computers
Access online homework help, research databases, and other resources
Download ebooks, music, movies, TV shows and other online content through library services

Getting a Student Library Card is free and easy, and does not require the presence of a parent or guardian. Students just need to stop by their neighborhood library with proof that they are a current student, such as a student ID card, report card, signed letter from a teacher on school letterhead, or other official document from the school. If you are a teacher or school administrator, click here to download a quick template form that can be used to provide your students with this enrollment proof so they can obtain library cards. Featured Resource: TumbleBooks

May 2015

TumbleBooks is an easy-to-use online database with hundreds of media-rich electronic books for children. Their selections include story books, nonfiction, graphic novels, chapter books, and foreign language books. TumbleBooks is provided to Salt Lake County residents for home use (including all students and parents in Granite School District) thanks to the Salt Lake County Public Library System. OverDrive Digital Library

Granite’s OverDrive Digital Library provides students and teachers with access to a large library of popular ebooks and audiobooks for independent, recreational, or teacher-assigned reading. These books can be read on a computer or checked out and downloaded to a wide array of mobile devices via the OverDrive Media Console apps. OverDrive is currently available to all students and teachers grades 7-12, and is also being piloted at several elementary schools for the 2014-15 school year. Students log in to OverDrive by choosing their school name and using their student number. Teachers and staff members log in by choosing “Teachers” as their school name and entering their district computer username and password.
