NPR Student Podcast Challenge

NPR is currently hosting a student podcast challenge.  Teachers of students from grades 5-12 can submit student-created podcasts until March 31, 2019. Two teachers of student groups will win the opportunity to have NPR and/or station reporters come to their school to meet and interview them and their student(s) and have the winning podcast discussed in a news segment that will appear on an episode of NPR’s All Things Considered or Morning Edition.

Synth is a simple podcasting tool that can be used to create short podcasts of about 4 1/2 minutes using audio or video.

Bring more people into the conversation. Others can add on their own short podcasts to an original conversation starter. There are lots of ways to use podcasting with students. Use it for interviewing, global collaboration, creating your own audio story, practicing a foreign language, and so much more. Upcoming Event + Volunteers Needed: Granite FIRST LEGO League Tournament, January 26, 2019

An amazing event is coming to Granite School District, and we need some volunteers!

The FIRST LEGO League Tournament for Granite School District will be on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Granger High School. It is an all-day event and we need judges, referees, stagers, runners, and table re-setters. If you would like more information on what the event is and what volunteering would entail, contact Cherie Anderson at  canderson@graniteschools.org or 385-646-7112. Hour of Code and Computer Science Education Week, 2018

Computer Science Education Week is December 3-9, 2018. Many schools, educators, and students participate in an Hour of Code during Computer Science Education Week.

Highlights from Granite’s FIRST LEGO League 2018 Qualifier

On Saturday, February 3, 2018, over 300 students from elementary and junior high schools across Granite School District, 44 coaches, 67 volunteers, and bleacher-filling numbers of supportive family and friends came together at Granger High School for Granite’s FIRST LEGO League 2018 Qualifier. Student teams were judged on their robot design, project presentations (researched, innovative solutions to real-world problems), core values, and performance in the robot games.

These teams advanced to the state competition, held the following week at Weber State University:
