Employment Requirements
All Nutrition Services positions require a high school diploma (or equivalent) and basic computer skills as defined by:
- Basic understanding of how to send and receive email in Outlook.
- Basic understanding of Internet Explorer, including but not limited to how to minimize or close browser windows and how to search the internet.
All applicants must possess or be willing to obtain and maintain a Salt Lake County Food Handler’s Permit.
Administration reserves the right to require specific training for any position. However, depending upon an applicant’s qualifications, some exchanges can be made between training and experience.

Job Summaries
Nutrition Service Worker Responsibilities
- Assists in food preparation and distribution of school meals.
- Cleans up kitchen, service areas and equipment.
- Performs minor routine equipment maintenance.
- May be required to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- May be required to handle money and make correct change during meal service.
- May perform additional duties.
Cafeteria Manager Responsibilities
Must have supervisory skills; working knowledge in proper operation and maintenance of kitchen equipment; data entry skills; high school diploma or equivalent. Must certify in ServSafe before applying. For additional questions about ServSafe, contact Felicity Black at 385-646-5523.
- Oversees food preparation and service to safe and sanitary standards.
Monitors ServSafe compliance.
- Accurately maintains Nutrition Services records.
- Trains and supervises nutrition service staff and student workers in the preparation and storage of school meals.
- Establishes controls to guard against waste.
- Coordinates nutrition service operations with administration, central kitchen and catering specialist.
- Attends Nutrition Services meetings and in-service meetings.
- Works evenings for special events as needed.
- May perform additional duties.
- Maybe required to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Cook Responsibilities
- Prepares food in large quantities for distribution to schools.
- Works with meat products, fruit and other food items.
- Operates industrial kitchen equipment. Cleans, maintains and sanitizes equipment and work areas.
- Marks and counts out items to facilitate distribution.
- May perform additional duties (help on bread line, box lunches, etc.)
- May be required to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
