Due to population declines throughout the district, the Population Analysis Committee (PAC) continues to study various regions of the district over the next 5-10 years. Spring 2024

Transition meetings with schools affected by 2023 study continue throughout the spring to ensure smooth transition. Western Hills and Silver Hills are planning joint activities, have set up pen pals between students at the two locations and are making every effort to ensure a successful transition.

Updated Boundary Maps / School Search Tool

Updated boundary maps showing what the new boundaries will be for Silver Hills Elementary and Beehive Elementary can be found on our Boundary Maps page which is also found in the menu bar of the Planning and Boundaries Website.

The School Search tool, known as Find My School lets you enter any address to see what schools that address pertains to. You have the option of choosing current school year School Search FY2024, or the new school year School Search FY2025

Dear Western Hills, Silver Hills, and Beehive Elementary Families,

On December 12, 2023, the Granite School District Board of Education voted to close Western Hills Elementary School at the conclusion of the 2023-2024 school year (at the end of this current school year). Those families impacted by this closure will be provided detailed information on their new boundaried school location after the Winter Break. 

Our three school communities will immediately begin the process of transitioning, which will include joint school community council meetings, open houses and community events and an appropriate goodbye to this wonderful school. 

We are committed to supporting the students and staff that will be moving schools as a result of this decision. Please don’t hesitate to contact your school or the district if you have any questions in the meantime.

Granite School District held an open house concerning the proposed re-opening of Brockbank Jr. High and possible boundary changes in the Cyprus Network.

As a follow up to the open houses and feedback, additional research was done throughout September and then Steve presented an October PAC Update to the District Board of Education at the 5:00 pm meeting October 3, 2023.

June – July 2023 PAC Update

The PAC formalized a recommendation and Steve Hogan, Director of Planning and Boundaries presented those recommendations to the board of education in the July board meeting. The full presentation can be found here. July 2023 PAC Study Presentation to school board. The board approved the following:

1 – Continuing the study to potentially re-open Brockbank Jr.

2- Narrowing the focus of this study to only one school closure: Western Hills Elementary.

Members of the public who wish to provide feedback to the PAC and Board, may attend the scheduled open house meetings in September or click Provide Feedback. Feedback we are looking for would be alternate suggestions to closure or potential boundary adjustments. All comments will be posted (withholding identifying information) on this website once the public input process is complete and in advance of a final recommendation from PAC to the Board in October.

Why is this area being studied?

Population analysis studies are conducted every year in areas where student population numbers have changed significantly. The study process allows for a full year of community input before a decision is made to adjust school boundaries, consolidate schools or close schools.

If the board decides to close a school, what does the district do with the property?

The district is disinclined to surplus or sell property because our geographic boundaries limit our potential for growth. In instances when the facility is too old to be used or maintained, buildings could be razed and the property maintained as a park by the city or county while the district maintains ownership. If the property were to be sold or surplussed, the local city or municipality has first rights to the property per state law.

Community Council Meetings will be held by network this year. Each community council member that lives in each network has been invited to attend to learn about the focus of the studies and to ask questions. Community Council Members are also encouraged to spread the word and invite community members to April Open Houses.

February 2023 PAC Update

At the February 7, 2023 School Board Meeting Steve Hogan, Director of Planning and Boundaries, presented the Proposed 2023 PAC Studies. Board members unanimously gave approval for the PAC to move forward with their 2023 recommendations as follows:

• Study the potential re-opening of Brockbank as junior high in conjunction with the current reconfiguration effort.
• Closure / Boundary Study of Areas 1 & 2 (Which includes Cyprus, Hunter, and Kearns networks).
